Annotations for Plug In Baby

Lyric: And I’ve seen your loving
 Mine is gone
 And I’ve been in trouble
Annotation:
He’s revealing his feelings and everything he thought about all of this time. He’s trying to express himself but the details are kind of scattered; Perhaps it’s because the issue is close to his heart. It could be that he has been in trouble (Needing love) and he knew she’d love him and so he just took her love even though he knew it was cheap, and so their entire relationship is going to be cheap. (Going back to loving something that has no soul) Now he just has to confess that his love is gone even though he feels very bad about the whole thing, so he can’t do anything – he just shouts in the next “line”. Just as a note: this might even talk about porn but it could also be his guitar or genetically engineered puppies- who knows! Even Matt forgot the original meaning!

Lyric: Change me
 And replace the envying
 To forget your love
Annotation:
Once again he’s stating it’s time to change; It seems that this time, after he asked her to cleanse everything and she failed he asks her to replace the envying – maybe he’s with someone else, maybe he’s asking her to hold back herself from him; Basically – sort of asking for her to give up on him.

Lyric: The underneath’s no big surprise
Annotation:
He’s trying to free her from her shyness. Might be literaly and explicitly – in the sexual meaning; Or maybe in the sense of being open to him and exposed.

Lyric: Don’t confuse
 Baby you’re gonna lose
 Your own game
Annotation:
Getting caught up in details and overthinking will ultimately be your demise. Don’t be your own sabateur.

Lyric: [Outro]
Annotation:
This is where Bellamy sings frantically and honestly and the lyrics are more straightforward and clear, in order to make no ambiguity about what happened, and about his feelings. Matt is singing using the falsetto technique a high F on the last line that leads back to the main riff, playing for one last time.

Lyric: Wooaahhh
Annotation:
!!!!!!!!!

Lyric: My plug-in baby
Annotation:
Another word for his guitar, his “plug in baby” ? Matt himself have stated that he was high on mushrooms when writing the song and he can’t remember what it’s meant to be about. source. http://www.musewiki.org/PlugInBaby(song) This would be the best explanation that’s been given to the meaning of the song; “That song’s about putting emotion into something that has no soul – like a child’s teddy bear or a computer. And also what it would be like if we could genetically engineer puppies that never grow old.” Bellamy: “I think the chorus is probably referring to some kind of analogy of the touring lifestyle, of what it feels like being on stage playing or whatever it might be, but kind of saying that really, I’m prepared to pretty much sacrifice everything in my personal life for the sake of playing music.”

Lyric: In unbroken virgin realities
 Is tired of living, ooh
Annotation:
She’s fought all her life and she’s tired of fighting, but since fighting is part of her life, she’s tired of living

Lyric: Crucifies my enemies
When I’m tired of giving, woah-oh-oh
Annotation:
she defends him when he’s tired of defending himself

Lyric: Now it’s time for changing
 And cleansing everything
 To forget your love
Annotation:
he wants to forget what she did to him, all of the lies she told, to forget how much love she gave him, so it’s easier for him to let go.
